Samuel JOBSON was baptised 05 Oct 1643, in Swavesey, Cambridgeshire, England.

He was a Fellmonger and Wool-stapler.

He seems to have been born into an Anglican family, and married his first wife within an Anglican church. Despite this, he raises his family as Quakers.

He died 02 Nov 1708, Bermondsey, Surrey, England.

Amongst the details of Samuel's will (proved 09 Nov 1708):

…unto my son Michael Jobson of the City of Philadelphia in the Province of Pensilvania… All my Land and Houses in the Province of Pensilvania To Have and to Hold to him and his heirs for ever…

In a Letter from Robert Turner, a Merchant in Philadelphis and one of the Councel, the 15th of October, 1686
“… As to the Town, Building goeth on. John Redman is building one Brick House for Richard Whitpain, of sixty Foot long, and fifty six Foot wide. For the Widow Farmer, another Brick House. For Thomas Barker and Samuel Jobson* two Brick Cellars, and Chimnies for back Kitchings. Thomas Ducket is Building a Brick House at the Skulkil, forty eight Foot long and three Stories high; there are two other Brick Houses to be built this Summer.”

*Thomas Barker (d. 1710), wine merchant, of London, and Samuel Jobson, fellmonger, of St Mary Magdalen, London, sent over Jacob Chapman to act as their agent in Pennsylvania, in 1685. By deeds of lease and release, 17th and 18th Oct., 1681, William Penn conveyed to Samuel Jobson, of the parish of St. Mary Magdalen Bermondsey, in Surrey, woolstapler, 1000 acres of land in Pennsylvania. This was surveyed 24 Feb., 1684, in Willistown, to Griffith Jones, as agent for Samuel Jobson, and patented to the latter 9 July, 1687, who by deed of 3 Feb., 1699, conveyed the same to his son Michael Jobson. He in turn devised the land by will, 3 Feb., 1709, to his sons Samuel and Michael when 21 years of age. Samuel Jobson, of Philadelphia, merchant, grandson of the original purchaser, for £240, conveyed his undivided moiety thereof to Thomas Smedley, of Willistown, yeoman, 6 April, 1726. Division having been made, Michael Jobson, of Willistown, yeoman, confirms unto Thomas Smedley 503 acres by metes and bounds, 25 Oct., 1726.

On Jan. 5, 1726, Anthiny Morris with Rees Thomas and Ann Whitpain bought of Michael and Samuel Jobson for £110 a lot on High Street 26 ft. x 306 ft. and a moiety of 250 acres of land and 16 acres in Liberties of Philadelphia (Vide Deed Book G 6, pp. 282 and 287) and April 27, 1728, the same parties bought of Michael Jobson for £12 the other moiety of the tract of 16 acres in the Liberties of Philadelphia (Vide Deed Book H 20, p. 512, Phila.).

Elizabeth died 26 Jan 1685, following the birth of an unnamed child 21 Jan 1684/85. She was buried 27 Jan 1685¹⁾.

Following Elizabeth's death, Samuel married Mary TEDDEMAN (widow of Benjamin Grove), 28 Jan 1686, Horselydown, Bermondsey, Surrey, England.

Amongst those present were: Edmund Teddeman (father of the bride), Alice & John Hull (sister and brother-in-law of the bride, who later moved to Rhode Island), John Jobson, Samuel Jobson, Hannah Jobson, William Ingram, Joseph Wright, Alexander Parker & George Whitehead²⁾, Samuel Wayman, and Ruth Grove.
