John Gay

1734 or 1739-1812
(John or Thomas - John - William - William - Philip - William)

John GAY may have been the John baptised 11 Feb 1738/39, Ingworth, Norfolk, the son of Thomas and Ann.

John may just as likely have been the son of John and Hannah baptised 22 Apr 1734, Burgh next Aylsham, Norfolk - however, there is a John buried 13 Aug 1734, and I am unable to establish if this is father or son1).
The records found so far are:-
Burgh next Aylsham
John Gaye 22 Apr 1734 Baptism
John Gay 13 Aug 1734 Burial

Either way, it does, however, appear that both Thomas and John were brothers, both being sons of John and Elizabeth (nee Bell) who were married in Oulton, 25 Apr 1695.

John was buried 27 Oct 1812, Ingworth, Norfolk, aged 76 [c.1736].

Marriage & Children

He married Elizabeth NORTON 21 Dec 1764, Ingworth, Norfolk.

Children of John Gay and Elizabeth:

  1. Ann GAY, baptised 19 Feb 1765, buried (a child) 22 Nov 1772 - Ingworth, Norfolk
  2. Elizabeth GAY, baptised 13 Sep 1767 - Saxthorpe, Norfolk
  3. Christian GAY, baptised 12 Jan 1772 - Erpingham, Norfolk
  4. Hannah GAY, baptised 29 May 1774 - Ingworth, Norfolk
  5. William GAY, baptised 12 Sep 1779 - Ingworth, Norfolk »

1)
For example: there are 2 burials for a Stephen Dyball, 21 Oct 1730 & 29 June 1734, yet neither mention being a child/son of.. (there is a baptism 17 Aug 1730 for the son of Thomas and Deborah).
