Testimonial by Joseph Allicocke

Back to Joseph Orchard | American Loyalist Claim

I hereby certify, that I knew Mr. Joseph Orchard before the commencement of the Rebellion in America - who, at the time I was under the necessity of quitting New York in 1776, follow'd the baking-business there with great reputation, and was well known to those with whom he was acquainted to be a throughpaced Loyalist. That on my return to New York in 1777, I found him industrously employ'd in the capacity of Superintendant of the Bakeries: to which office, I understood he was appointed for his uniform and zealous attachment to the British Government, and the many essential services he had render'd to His Majesty's Troops. That in the year 1781, Brigadier Genl Delancy, with whom I occasionally had connections in business, sent for me to his Home, and requested my assistance in counting and receiving for him, from Mr. Orchard, a sum of money, a balance due on the purchase of a Farm sold him by the General, situated at Bloomingdale on the Island of New York
